Story
Hi friends, family and close business tribe,
I’m taking on the Live Like Her Challenge 2024 to help more homeless women over 55 into a home. For one night, we will be sleeping in a car, to raise awareness and funds for The Forgotten Women project, an initiative which is close to our hearts.
This fundraiser means sooo much to me as I am approaching 55 myself and have experienced many of the circumstances which can lead to a woman living in a car/homeless. I did not contribute to my superannuation during my full time child raising years including the years of casual work while raising my children, as well as during university studies. I am also divorced, suffer depression periods resulting in a lack of confidence in the work force, depleted savings, unsound investments along with the sound ones and relocated homes many many times. I am extremely lucky to still have savings, income, thriving children and grandchildren and a close strong supportive family and friend network - many do not.
Additionally, my understanding is some women who are homeless are in employment yet still unable to secure affordable or social housing.
To support me in helping The Forgotten Women Non-profit Organisation, please click “Donate Now” to make a secure online donation as “Everyone deserves to live with dignity and age securely in place”.
Every dollar helps provide safe housing, financial assistance, and the support these women need to rebuild their lives.
All donations over $2 are tax deductible and you will get a receipt automatically via email. Please consider making a tax-deductible donation before June 30th to include in your claims this financial year.
I sincerely thank you for your support, together we can change the story for so many deserving women! Love from me x
The Forgotten Women
Mangrove Housing is the founder of The Forgotten Women Project, an initiative committed to providing homes to homeless women over 55 years of age - the fastest growing homeless population in Australia today. There are more than 40,000 Queensland women over the age of 55 who are doing it tough - suffering financial hardship driven by rising costs, lack of employment, limited superannuation and a lack of affordable housing options. Across the Greater Brisbane area there are over 600 homeless women over 55 .Alarmingly this figure is predicted to more than double by 2036. The Forgotten Women's mission is to provide fit-for-purpose housing for homeless women over 55 with individually tailored support. Everyone deserves to live with dignity and age securely in place.
